Percussion massager

The percussion massager type of mechanical is a small, hand-held unit which comes with a variety of massage heads, creating similar effects to manual percussion massage movements. A number of percussion vibrators have an intensity adjustment dial to enable the therapist to increase or decrease the vibration produced according to the depth or tissue being treated; they all have a main switch for turning the unit on or off. Percussion vibrators are generally used on the fine tissues of the face, neck and shoulders.
Different heads supplied are:

1. Sponge head-used for gentle stimulation of the tissues.
2. Spiky head – a rubber head used to create a more stimulating tapotement effect

Reasons for the use of percussion

1. To stimulate the circulation and blood flow in the sebaceous glands of the skin dehydrated or dry.
2. For the production of heat in the tissue to promote relaxation.

Preparation for the percussion massager

1. Observe the general safety precautions when using electrical appliances.
2. Mounted on a sturdy cart
   The device is monitored and tested to ensure it works properly

Percussion treatment

1. The client is wetted at reception and escorted to the treatment area.
2. A consultation is carried out to check for any contraindications and to plain the effects of the treatment.
3. The client removes their jewellery and is helped onto the couch.
4. The therapist ensues the client is warm and comfortable and prepared for treatment.
5. The appropriate massage head for the desired effects is selected and fitted firmly to the unit.
6. A suitable product medium Is selected and applied to the area to be treated, e.g. talcum powder for oily skin and cream for dry.

Method

•Avoid very bony areas.
